Kaieteur Sports – After thrilling action in Demerara and Berbice, the Future Warriors Tapeball for Primary Schools, which is powered by ExxonMobil Guyana, arrives at the Anna Regina National Stadium today, with C.V Nunes Primary firmly under the spotlight as they look to defend their Essequibo Zone crown.

They enter the 16-team knockout bracket not just as participants, but as the team with a target on their backs, carrying the hopes of the Anna Regina faithful who expect nothing less than a clinical display on home soil.

Already, West Ruimveldt have locked up the Demerara title, while St. Therese Primary flexed its muscles to claim the honours in Berbice.

C.V. Nunes Primary will start the day as the defending champions of the Essequibo Zone.

The team that emerges from the Essequibo crucible this weekend will complete the trio, progressing to the coveted Champion of Champions national finals slated for August or September.

“The action in the previous zones was exceptional, and we have witnessed some exceptionally good cricket from these young players,” Tournament Director John Ramsingh said ahead of the weekend’s blockbuster schedule.

“We expect the energy and talent in Essequibo to match, if not exceed, what we have seen across Demerara and Berbice.

We must also extend our sincere thanks to the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport for lending support in terms of once again giving access to a top-class facility, especially in this rainy season.”

In keeping with the tournament’s focus on grassroots development, the rewards extend far beyond the silverware.

The top four schools from the zone will take home comprehensive equipment bags, agility kits, and electronic scoring tablets—the latter of which is a forward-thinking initiative to introduce these young cricketers to the data-driven mechanics of the modern game.

Furthermore, to ensure no school leaves empty-handed, all 16 participating institutions will receive baseline fitness equipment to foster long-term athletic development.

The tournament gets underway on Saturday morning in a rapid-fire sequence across four simultaneous pitches.

The marquee opening session at 10:30h sees title favourites C.V. Nunes Primary launch their campaign against 8th of May Primary on Pitch 4.

Simultaneously, Riverstown Primary faces Taymouth Manor Primary (Pitch 1), Hampton Court Primary clash with Lima Sands Primary (Pitch 2), and Good Hope Primary squares off against Sparta Primary (Pitch 3).

The second wave of first-round fixtures bowls off at 11:30h, featuring Huis T’ Dieren Primary vs Mainstay Lake Primary (Pitch 1), Onderneeming Primary vs Fisher Primary (Pitch 2), Charity Primary vs Friendship Primary (Pitch 3), and Capoey Primary vs Suddie Primary (Pitch 4).

Admission to the Anna Regina National Stadium is entirely free, and members of the public are encouraged to come out and support the future stars of Guyanese cricket.
