Kaieteur Sports – Opener John Campbell, following the first two days West Indies’ high-performance training camp, revealed that the team’s mindset heading into June’s ODI home series against Sri Lanka, is one of cohesiveness adding that players have bought into the team’s tactical planning ahead of a packed summer.
The left-hander who is currently a part of the West Indies high performance camp in Antigua, during an interview following the first couple days of the 10-day camp, said things have been going well.
“I think our session went pretty well this morning. We’ve had some plans in place, and I think the way we’ve been implementing them over these training sessions, we’ve had conversations before this camp as well about what we need to do as a team to get better. And I think that everybody has bought into it, and we’re heading in the right direction.” Said Campbell.

Windies opener John Campbell said that players have been gelling nicely as the bowled off their 10-day camp ahead of next month’s ODI home series against Sri Lanka.
The basis of the encampment is set to work as a prelude to the upcoming start to their Summer fixtures which bowls off with a ODI series against Sri Lanka in Jamaica next month.
On the wider spectrum, the camp will likely see more of its kind being hosted as part of CWI’s 18-month strategy to revive and improve the West Indies 50-over status.
Campbell, speaking on the upcoming battles, believed that taking it one game or series at a time is a key part of the team’s game-plan.
“Well, obviously, every series matters. Every series carries a lot of weight. So for us, we just want to take it a game at a time. If we go there and execute our skills, then we should be good.”
The opener, who has had more luck in the Test area, will look to build on a decent ODI career start with just one century under his belt.
He said the team was focused and laser-fixed on the importance of early momentum, as he believes the key to series success lies in a fast start.
“I think once we can start well, once we can get a win in the first game, it will aid us in winning the series,” he said. “I think once we have a platform, then we could build on it throughout the series.” outlined Campbell
The Coolidge Cricket Ground has been a hive of intense drills, simulated match scenarios, and tactical meetings, with the coaching staff emphasising discipline and execution.
