Windies Batting Coach Reifer says high performance camp running on intensity
– says energy levels high within camp

Kaieteur Sports – West Indies batting coach Floyd Reifer said he’s seen tons of intensity from his players following the first few days of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) High-Performance white-ball camp hosted in Antigua.
With the Sri Lanka limited-overs series around the corner, the current camp hosted at Coolidge Cricket Ground, is set to further help fine-tune players for the format ahead while in most cases serving as a means of working injured players back into match-ready shape.
The former Test batsman Reifer pointed out that batsmen and bowlers were in the zone during the opening days of camp, which focused on a number of key batting as well as bowling areas to which the team and players could improve on.
“We focused on strike rotation and trying to turn over the ball as much as possible, boundary options when batting in the middle overs, that was one of the main focuses over the first two days,” said Reifer.

He noted that the fast-bowlers also did a lot of work alongside bowling coach Ravi Rampaul as well as former head coach turned consultant, Ottis Gibson.
Speaking on the mood of the camp, Reifer outlined, “The intensity levels are high, the energy levels are high and everyone has bought into what we have. This team has been doing well over the past 2 years in ODI cricket so it’s for us to keep moving in the right direction.”
Reifer added that aspects of the camp focused on the playing of spin bowling as it relates to the batsmen. He noted that particularly in the middle innings, strike rotation against spinners is key during games.
He also believed that due to the guys being very aware of what is needed, it is important to remain adaptive in a constantly evolving sport.

Meanwhile, the 10-day training programme will be used as a launchpad for the upcoming One-Day International (ODI) home series against Sri Lanka in Jamaica which bowls off next month.
Skipper Shai Hope headed up the star-studded list of players involved in the high performance camp, with players like John Campbell, Keacy Carty, Roston Chase, Shamar Springer, Alzarri Joseph, as well as Guyanese Shamar Joseph and Gudakesh Motie among other West Indies mainstay players.
