Future stars commence training, as GCC annual cricket summer camp bowls off
(Kaieteur News) – The annual Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) two-week summer camp bowled off recently with future stars showcasing early stages of their talents under the watchful eyes of some of the country’s top players and coaches.
More than 50 youths assembled at the legendary Bourda Ground to bowl off this year’s edition of what has been one of the more important summer camps in Guyana’s cricket legacy.
While a number of past players who have gone on to represent GCC, their county Demerara, Guyana, and eventually the West Indies, have been significantly reinforced by this future crop of players who have been integrated into the club’s system and hopefully will remain dedicated to GCC’s rich legacy.

Players were drilled by veterans like Peter Persaud, who focused on the 7-9 age group, and Guyana Harpy Eagles assistant Coach Garvin Nedd—arguably two of the more dedicated summer camp coaches over the last decade.
GCC’s First Division vice-captain and Guyana Harpy Eagles middle-order batter, Akshaya Persaud, also shared his experience and passed on knowledge to prospects, as he remains one of the figures the youths will gravitate towards, given his still young but decorated professional career to date.
Persaud worked specifically on high catches with players in the 11-12 age group, alongside assistant Coach and current Guyana U-15 National player Trilok Nanan.
Coach Nedd carried the youths through their warm-up paces with stretching, balancing, and breathing routines headed towards building a player’s focus/concentration.
Nanan also took his young group through the necessary pre-game routines, which focused heavily on stretching as well as other intricate aspects of prepping ahead of a game, with all hands on deck to ensure the youngsters were well-equipped by the end of the camp. (Clifton Ross)
