GCB President meets Guyana Women’s Under-19 Team ahead of Antigua Departure
– Squad includes talented young cricketers from hinterland, riverine and rural communities across Guyana
(Kaieteur News) – President of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), Mr. Bissoondyal Singh, met with members of the Guyana Women’s Under-19 team at the GCB office prior to their departure for Antigua to compete in the 2026 CWI Rising Stars Women’s Under-19 Championship.
During the meeting, Singh presented the players with a quantity of cricket gear and encouraged them to represent Guyana with pride, discipline and determination.
GCB president Bissoondyal Singh met with the women’s U19 team ahead of their departure for Antigua ahead of this weekend’s start to the CWI Women’s U19 50-over tournament.
The squad includes players selected from across Guyana, including the hinterland, riverine and rural communities of Moruca, Pomeroon, Agatash in the Essequibo River, Waramuri Mission and Leguan.
The GCB President stated: “The selection of players from communities across Guyana reflects the continued growth of women’s cricket. I encourage the team to make full use of this opportunity and represent Guyana with pride and distinction.”
The selected players are: Danellie Manns (captain), Akeela Stephens (vice-captain), Rickesha Kisten (wicketkeeper), Jada Fraser, Sarah Bheir, Jaraya Rodrigues, Shenesa Thomas, Briana Samaroo, Allia Henry, Sowanna Booker, Kainana Leitch, Rickesha Kisten, Rosanna Patterson, Athalia Simmons and Christina Jackson.
Clive Grimmond will serve as manager, while Tremayne Smartt is the coach.
The Guyana Cricket Board wishes the players and management team every success in Antigua.
