Kaieteur Sports – New West Indies Regional 4-Day champions TT Red Force not only claimed this season’s title but managed to claim top honors across both batting and bowling categories, finishing with somewhat of a clean sweep of the main individual awards after a dominant 2026 West Indies 4-Day Championships.
Seeking their 3rd straight title in as many seasons dating back a few seasons ago, the Tevin Imlach-led Guyana Harpy Eagles were outplayed by their arch rivals from the Twin Island Republic, thus failing to capture another title which would have solidified their new legacy with a three-peat of the Regional 4-Day title.
The red force in the other hand, ensured that a two decade long wait would not further elude them as they hoisted the trophy for the first time in modern 4-Day franchise cricket, as they look to now build on what could be the blueprint for developing the core pieces of the team for, next season’s title defense and beyond.
Captain Joshua Da Silva ended the season with 413 runs from the 5 games played, scoring two half-centuries and a tournament-best 220, followed by his teammate Amir Jangoo in second place with 411 runs with the tournament’s second highest score under his belt of 203*.
Barbados Pride’s Kevin Wickham ended the season as the third leading scorer with 393 runs, with Guyana Harpy Eagles opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul occupying the third place. The West Indies Test opener hit an impressive 342 runs from just 4 games, with two fifties and a 117* to end as the number one run-getter for the Eagles.
Only Kemol Savory with 261 runs and all-rounder Keemo Paul 212 runs, clipped the 200-run mark this season alongside Chanderpaul for Guyana, who had a balanced tournament with both bat and ball.
Opener Matthew Nandu had an epic double ton against the West Indies Academy (WIA), in a match which was one of the more entertaining games of the season but held no merit as it was used as a pre-finals warm-up.
One huge plus for the former champs is the quality of their bowling this season, especially given that two of the three bowlers to lead the charts for most wickets were pacers. Ace left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie who topped the list with 27 scalps from the 5 games played, followed by the Red Force twin pacers Anderson Phillip who had 25 wickets for his second place spot and Jayden Seales who bagged 23 victims.
Veteran lefty spinner Veerasammy Permaul snatched 22 wickets to end his season as the next best bowler for Guyana aside from Paul (16 wickets), wrapping up a nice first class return to full form after working his way back into top shape. Speedster Nial Smith can also hold his head high, as he returned a total of 14 wickets after a great season by fast-bowling standards.
Outside of the top two pacers in Phillip and Seales, followed by Paul along with his teammate Smith; only Red Force fast-bowler Terrance Hinds (15 wickets) managed to claim 15 scalps or more in a season dominated mostly by the slower bowlers.
The Eagles meanwhile can feel proud of their performances in the field, as three of their players in Kevlon Anderson (9 catches), Paul (8 catches) and glove-man Savory (6 catches) dominated spots 1-3 in the Most Catches category; a testament to their efforts in the field all season.
