GGA lauds 5th year of Growth within CSEC Physical Education Golf Programme
The GGA is preparing for another successful year at the CSEC Physical Education levels.
Kaieteur Sports – The Guyana Golf Association (GGA) is celebrating another historic milestone as golf continues to expand rapidly within the nation’s education system.
Through its exclusive partnership with Nexgen Golf Academy, Westside Golf Course, and the Ministry of Education, the association has successfully completed its fifth consecutive year of participation in the CSEC Physical Education programme with remarkable national growth.
A total of 302 students across Guyana selected golf as their Physical Education elective for the 2026 CSEC examinations — a significant achievement for a programme that began in 2021 with just five pilot schools.
Today, the programme has expanded into nine of Guyana’s ten administrative regions, demonstrating the increasing popularity and accessibility of golf among the nation’s youth. This year, students from Regions 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 participated in the programme, with Anna Regina Secondary School leading the nation with an impressive 54 students enrolled in golf studies.
President of the Guyana Golf Association, Aleem Hussain, expressed gratitude to the Regional Education Departments, Headmasters and Headmistresses, Physical Education teachers, overseas supporters, local sponsors, and volunteers whose dedication helped make the programme a success.
“My family, friends, sponsors, and volunteers are the backbone of this golf programme. Their continued support through fundraising, donations of equipment, and countless volunteer hours has allowed us to sustain and grow this initiative entirely through self-funding since its inception,” Hussain stated.
Looking ahead, Hussain revealed that several major golf events are scheduled for the coming months at Westside Golf Course, including:
The National Junior Golf Championship, expected to attract international junior golfers
The National Long Drive Championship
The $1 Million Hole-in-One Challenge
The National Chip, Putt & Drive Championship
The Guyana Golf Association continues to demonstrate that strong partnerships, dedication, and a commitment to placing children first in sports development can create transformational opportunities for young people throughout Guyana.
Five years later, the programme continues to grow stronger and inspire the next generation of golfers nationwide.
