​Leon Reddy and Dharvish Narine cops top awards, Over $2.5M worth of prizes shared out

Kaieteur Sports – ​National Under 16 Player Leon Reddy on Monday last copped the Cricketer of the Academy award when the curtains came down on the highly successful Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club 35th annual Cricket Academy. The closing ceremony was held at the Area ‘H’ Ground with Region 6 Regional Executive Officer Ronald Harsawack as the guest speaker. The ceremony was attended by dozens of youths, their parents, coaches and special invitees.

​Club Secretary, Hilbert Foster, described the 2026 academy as an overwhelming success with close to one hundred students registering for the two weeks event. Special emphasis was placed on improving the batting, bowling and fielding skills of the participants along with their knowledge of the game and its laws. Foster expressed gratitude to Bakewell, Panthera Solutions and KSM Investment Inc. for coming on board as the official sponsors of the academy. RHTYSC Cricket Manager Robby Kissoonlall hailed the hard work of the cricket coaches—Winston Smith, Floyd Benjamin, Eon Hooper and Clinton Pestano. Kissoonlall noted that the academy over the years has produced 133 Berbice players, 76 national players and 13 at the international level for the West Indies and the United States of America. Head Coach Winston Smith assured the attentive gathering that the RHTYSC has a secured future as a cricket club with dozens of great talents developing at a young age.

​Regional Executive Officer Ronald Harsawack hailed the outstanding work of the club and the role it is playing in shaping the future of many youth. The REO urged the large gathering of youths to develop a culture of discipline, hard work and dedication. REO Harsawack committed himself to working along with club in the future. He noted that he has always admire the RHTYSC from a distance and he was very impress with the club work with youth. Mayor of Rose Hall Town, Dave Budhu informed the gathering that Guyana’s smallest town was very proud to be the home of such a dynamic youth and sport organisation, which work hard to make a positive difference in the lives of youths.

​Reddy, who recently played for Guyana at the Under 16 level was named the Cricketer of the Academy by the coaching staff and carried home a whopping $600,000 worth of prizes including an electric bike, a personal laptop computer from Beepat’s, Comfort Sleep Mattress, electronic tablet, King’s Jewellery World Medallion, household utensils, designer watch, designer clothing and numerous hampers. The Runner up Cricketer of the Academy was Dharvish Narine while the female Cricketer was Kaylee Lewis. They each received two hundred thousand dollars worth of Prizes. Other awardees were:

• ​Most Discipline – Raffel Mckenzie
• ​Bowler of the Academy – Leon Reddy
• ​Batsman of the Academy – Mesa Alexander
• ​Promising female – Mesa Alexander
• ​Coaches Choice for the future – Elizabeth Lewis, Winston Collins, Joshua Dhanraj, Justen Hicks, Lamer Le Fleur, E. Harry and Marcini Grasvenor.

​They received a wide range of prizes including cricket gears, household utensils, cosmetics hampers, electronic tablets, laptop computers, bicycles, tricycle and cash prizes. The RHTYSC would like to express thanks to the sponsors of the academy which lasted for two weeks and attended by youths across the Ancient County.

Among the major sponsor of the academy were Bakewell, Panthera Solutions, KSM Investment, Trim Construction, SD and L Accounting, Minister Steven Jacobs, Lennox Cush, Comfort Sleep, Beepat’s, A H and L Kissoon, National Hardware Ltd, G.N.N.L, Skeldon Energy, NAMILCO, Ricks and Sari, The Gift Centre, Trendsetter Tours and Solen Lewis Styles among others. Each of the dozens of participants received an educational package worth eight thousands dollars from the cricket teams of the RHTYSC. The distribution of the prizes and the educational packages were done under the 2026 edition of the RHTYSC Basil Butcher Memorial Trust Fund.
