Kaieteur Sports – A mind-boggling double-century from West Indies Under-19 player, Shamar Apple helped him etch his name into local cricket books despite interruptions from Mother Nature, which ended a number of possible exciting encounters this past weekend across the city.
Apple came out with Guns Blazing during his marauding knock, sharing a 7th wicket 180-run stand with Afraz Khan (20*) who played a moderate hand, to help Transport post a monster 412-7 after 50 overs.
West Indies Under-19 batsman Shamar Apple smashed a record 250 this past weekend.
The Windies U-19 gloveman slammed 20 sixes and 22 fours, surging to his maiden 250 off 115 balls as he scorched the Malteenoes bowling attack.
While Apple’s knock was the headline of the match, Mickel Johnson made (37), National Youth all-rounders Reyaz Latif (35) and Emmanuel Lewis (23) played decent knocks.
Deshawn Ramnauth (2-41) and Nathaniel Ramkellawan (2-61) led Malteenoes’ bowling effort before rain stopped play with their team stuck on 49-1 in the 9th over.
Shane Shivbarran hit a trifecta of fours in his 22 off 20 with Shane Kissoondeo (20), the other significant scorer.
Former U15 batsman Trilok Nanan missed a century by a few runs.
Meanwhile, in another dominant showing by the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) lads disposed of the GT XI after a near ton from former Youth batsman Trilok Nanan, which set up the victory for his team at Bourda.
Nanan fell for 97 after stroking 11 fours during his 83-ball stay out in the middle which essentially guided GCC to 234 all out with roughly an over left.
Opener Neerav Persaud (48) missed a possible fifty, as he dug in during the 2nd wicket stand of 145 alongside Nanan.
Aaron Persaud (17) and skipper Ravaldo Pereira (11) were the other batters into double-figures as GT XI bowlers controlled the second half of the innings, after GCC looked set for a massive score at 157-1 after 26 overs.
GT XI bowling was solid thanks to efforts from Aditya Khan (2-25) and Ajay Kissoon (2-38) and others. However, the rain interrupted play with the score stuck on 23-2 after just 7 overs.
