Kaieteur Sports – Guyana Harpy Eagles opener Matthew Nandu dazzled the Antigua Recreation Ground yesterday with a phenomenal unbeaten ton which gave his team a huge chance at getting close to the monster 1st innings total set by the West Indies Academy (WIA); as they trail by 237 runs with an important 3rd day looming today.
Nandu notched up his second 1st class hundred which gave the Eagles a tremendous start in their hunt of the Academy’s mammoth 1st innings score of 485 all out.
The reliable in-form opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul applied himself for yet another innings this season with a 106-ball 59 featuring 10 fours, adding 127 for the first wicket alongside Nandu.
At close of play, Guyana were rock-steady on 248-3 after 68 overs with Nandu on 110 not out with 13 fours, carrying his bat throughout the entire passage of day 2 which kept Guyana in the hunt.

Tagenarine Chanderpaul stroked another fifty at the top of the order during his century opening stand alongside Matthew Nandu.
All-rounder and debutant Zeynul Ramsammy (12*), looked positive with a couple of fours before stumps and will look to leave an impression today.
After Chanderpaul’s departure, Kevlon Anderson sought to finally get some form ahead of the final, playing well for his 31 (4×4) but still was nowhere near his peak batting zone as he fell to Giovonte Depeiza (1-19).
Leg-spinning all-rounder Zishan Motara (2-87), who removed Chanderpaul earlier, then added the big wicket of the Eagles captain Tevin Imlach, who was knocked over for a grueling 8 off 32 (1×4); to his collection shortly after Guyana would go well past the 200-run mark.
One of the Eagles young prospects to feature in this match, Ramsammy, then joined forces with Nandu as Guyana were locked in approaching close of play on Day 2.
Earlier, WIA resuming on 423-6 with Rivaldo Clarke already 150 runs up and Amari Goodridge also unbeaten on a ton, Guyana managed to snuff out the remaining wickets.
Clarke would go onto to finish with a majestic 180 off 228 balls with 23 fours and 5 sixes while Goodridge ended on 123 with 12 fours and 3 sixes, piling on 280 runs for the 7th wicket before both centurions fell to fast-bowler Nial Smith (2-61).
Young seamer Thaddeus Lovell bagged 2-88 as both Veerasammy Permaul and Richie Looknauth failed to add to their respective first day 3-fers.
Meanwhile, Trinidad & Tobago Red Force who were bowled out for 333 in the first innings, still managed to gain a 71-run lead over Barbados Pride, who are reeling on 262-9 going into today’s 3rd day over at the Coolidge Cricket Ground.
