Kaieteur Sports – The Guyana Mixed Martial Arts Karate Association (GMMAKA) successfully hosted its highly anticipated Epic Clash Martial Arts Championship 2026 on April 25 and 26, bringing together young martial artists from across Guyana for a dynamic display of skill, discipline, and sportsmanship.
The event commenced with a formal opening ceremony, featuring the formation of students, the recitation of the Karate Dojo Motto, prayer, and the National Pledge. Organizers highlighted the association’s 35-year legacy of youth development, focusing on both physical and mental growth, along with consistent success at local and international levels.
A total of 15 martial arts teams comprising approximately one hundred and forty five (145) competitors, participated in the championship, representing schools and communities nationwide.

The GMMAKA successfully hosted its Epic Clash Martial Arts Championship 2026 on April 25 and 26 at the Sports Hall.
These included Iron Fist Martial Arts Academy (New Diamond/Grove Primary School), United Warriors Martial Arts Academy (Cornelia Ida, Tuschen, and Graham’s Hall Primary Schools), Invisible Kicks Martial Arts Academy (La Parfaite Harmonie), Red Dragon Martial Arts Academy (Belle West, Leonora, and LBI Primary Schools), Vreed-En-Hoop Martial Arts Academy (Vreed-En-Hoop Primary School), Black Dragon Martial Arts Academy (Mon Repos and Lusignan Primary Schools), Tiger Fang Martial Arts Academy (Cindy’s Academy), Genesis Martial Arts Academy (Genesis Primary School), Korean International Martial Arts Guyana (Tang Soo Do), and Goshindo Martial Arts School.
The championship featured a range of competitive events designed to test technique, creativity, and combat ability, including Traditional Kata, Free Form, flag sparring, team kata, Weapon Form, Padded Weapon, and Sparring.
Participants delivered impressive performances marked by discipline and precision, with matches judged under established WKF rules. Points were awarded based on accuracy and execution, with head kicks receiving the highest scores. Strict safety and conduct protocols were enforced throughout to ensure fairness and respect among all competitors.
A vibrant march-past by all karate students added to the excitement of the event, highlighting unity and pride among the participating academies. Spectators also contributed to the lively atmosphere, with strong support for the event’s snack bar.
A highlight of the championship was the Grand Championship for Traditional Kata, in which all first-place winners competed for the ultimate title. Emerging victorious was Zafar Ramnarine, who delivered an outstanding performance to claim the prestigious grand championship title. The GMMAKA congratulated Ramnarine on this remarkable achievement, commending his dedication and excellence.
Master Lloyd Ramnarine also extended congratulations to all participating students for their outstanding performances. He encouraged them to return to their respective dojos and continue working diligently to prepare for the various challenges ahead, while wishing them success in their future competitions.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to youth development and nation-building through martial arts, emphasizing its ongoing mission to guide young people toward a positive and disciplined future. The event was officially declared open by the host, marking another successful chapter in Guyana’s martial arts community.
