Kaieteur Sports – A lights-out shooting display from Julian Charles headlined day six of the Youth Basketball Guyana Georgetown-City Regional Basketball Conference on Wednesday evening at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, as Tutorial High School stormed ahead with a commanding victory over Christ Church Secondary.
Charles put on an offensive clinic, pouring in a game-high 20 points as Tutorial High ran away with a dominant 32-8 win in the second matchup of the double-header. The sharpshooter was unstoppable in transition and aggressive in the paint, repeatedly finishing at the rim while controlling the tempo on both ends of the hardwood.
Tutorial High came out pressing from the opening tip and never took their foot off the gas, forcing turnovers and converting fast-break opportunities into easy buckets. Charles accounted for the bulk of the scoring, while also pulling down three rebounds in an impressive all-round performance.
Support came from Andrew Yhap, who added eight points and three steals as Tutorial High executed a full-court press that left Christ Church struggling to break through the defence.
The emphatic 24-point blowout ensured Tutorial High advanced comfortably in the Georgetown-City Regional competition.
Earlier in the evening, North Georgetown Secondary produced another solid team effort to overpower St Joseph High 30-12 in the opening clash.
Lamount Hamer controlled the floor with a game-high eight points while stuffing the stat sheet with six rebounds and three steals. Hamer’s hustle on defence disrupted St Joseph’s offensive rhythm throughout all four quarters.
Teammates Alex Peniston and Omari Barrington each chipped in six points and combined for 12 rebounds as North Georgetown dominated the boards and maintained a comfortable cushion from start to finish.
Despite the loss, Adoniah Langhorne showed determination for St Joseph High, finishing with seven points and three rebounds in a spirited effort.
The Regional Conference is sponsored by Edward B. Beharry Ltd., G-Boats Inc, National Sports Commission, Ministry of Education and Banks DIH Ltd.
