Kaieteur Sports – Noor Cricket Youth Club (NCYC) of Canada continued their Under-19 tour of Guyana with another loss, this time at the hands of Everest who handed them a 36-run defeat yesterday.
Following a horrific loss a day prior at the hands of Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) in a T20, the young Canadians played a better match but faced similar results to that of their first game of the tour.
Playing at home, Everest did well to recover from a few early losses to eventually post 170 for 5 from 30 overs, led by Vinesh Kalpu who finished the game unbeaten on 51 off 36 balls (2×4 3×6).
Opener Arun Mangal (29) hit one four in a watchful innings while Captain Nityanand Mathura (31) and Chris Persaud (28), played good hands alongside Kalpu.
NCYC spinner Jaffar Samad (2-41) was the pick of the bowlers, who toiled before he returned to lead with a solid 64 off 68 (7×4) alongside teammate Moksh Patel (43) who punched four fours and a six during their century stand.
But a few late strikes from Samuel Ally (3-26) kept Everest in the match, as the Canadians were eventually kept to 134-6 at the end of the 30 allotted overs.
In the first game at Bourda, NCYC managed just 56-8 from 20 overs after toiling against an experienced GCC attack.
Only skipper Jatan Mehta got a start, hitting 12 off 19 balls with a solitary four as his team collapsed around him.
Left-arm spinners Arun Gainda picked up 3-11 and Nathaniel Sukhnandan (1-9) tied the batting down as captain, Dhanesh Persaud (1-10) and Balashankar Narine (1-11) kept the pressure mounting.
Man-of-the-match and opener Shiloh Adams cracked 4 fours in his 27-ball 28, while his partner in national youth all-rounder Shahid Ramzan chipped in with 14 not out, missing a half-century stand by 3 runs.
A spirited spell from Bhumesh Ramkissoon (1-6) saw him end as the lone wicket-taker for NCYC.
NCYC is a powerhouse across the Canadian Commonwealth Cricket First Division League, winning back-to-back championships in 2024 and 2025.
Meanwhile, the 6-match developmental tour wraps up on May 11. (Clifton Ross)
