Results of Corentyne Zone of Cheddi and Janet Jagan Memorial Windball Inter School Cricket Competition

Kaieteur Sports – The Corentyne Zone of the Cheddi and Janet Jagan Memorial Windball Inter School Cricket Competition was held at the Port Mourant Community Centre Ground, bringing together male and female teams from secondary schools in that district.
The competition which is organised by the National Sports Commission, Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sport is coordinated by Senior Sports Officer Mr. Allister Munroe and the AL Sport & Tour Promotions Group.
Among the schools that participated were – Skeldon, Line Path, Central Corentyne, Corentyne Comprehensive, Lower Corentyne Secondary, J. C Chandisingh Secondary and Winifred Gaskin Memorial.
Results of matches in the Cheddi Jagan boys competition: – Skeldon Line Path Secondary after being invited to take first strike score 94-0, Ravin Deen 42, Reyad Bhola 40.
Corentyne Comprehensive Secondary reply with 20-5. Khemdat Nimnauth 10.
Purnrudra Kuldip & Solman Hercules each took 2 wkts each.
Regional Executive Officer Narindra Persaud at left and Former West Indies Player Davendra Bissoo at right among the participants of the Cheddi and Janet Jagan inter school Windball cricket competition.
Central Corentyne Secondary batted first and scored 76-2, Youvindra Jhram 19, Kareem Moore 13, Iziah Razack 12. Isaiah Pereira 2 wkts.
Winifred Gaskin Memorial Government Secondary School replied with 37-3, Bradian Pereira 14.
Result of one match in the Janet Jagan girls’ competition:-
Central Corentyne Secondary 30-1-Veedwattie Jhamant 11.
Manchester Secondary School 33-2.
Speaking at the opening ceremony Regional Executive Officer Mr. Narindra Persaud spoke about the government support for such programmes.
Mr Persaud gave a background to his association and involvement with such programmes over the years. He congratulated the organisers and spoke glowingly of Sports Officer Allister Munroe and the yeoman service that he gives to sports over the years and his remarkable organizing skills.
He mentioned some students who would have participated in such Programmes and would have advanced to represent Guyana and the West Indies.
The REO spoke of the contribution of the two late presidents Dr. Cheddi and Janet Jagan after whom the competitions are being played. He reminded the students that Dr Jagan was from the said Port Mourant Village and was a humble and simple man like them.
He urged the students to aim high and pursue opportunities to represent Guyana and the West Indies.
The REO challenged the student to be disciplined and of their best behaviour. He stated that the winning school from Berbice will get additional rewards from the RDC of Region 6. He told them that if they win the national competition they will be rewarded further.
Former Guyana and West Indies cricketer Devendra Bishoo in remarks encouraged discipline, commitment, and sportsmanship among the students. Stating that those were some of the traits that bought him success.
