Kaieteur Sports – Due to heavy rainfall across the ancient county of Berbice, the Port Mourant Turf Club Easter Cup horse race is postponed to Sunday April 26.
They were also engagements to host the race on April 12 but a final decision was made for April 26.
The organizers explored all possible options to host the race but the weather did not allow such.
The event was also relocated from Port Mourant to the Kennard Memorial Turf Club in an attempt to save the race day; and the date was shifted for Easter Sunday.
However, despite these efforts, the persistent rainfall continued without relief, preventing the track from drying sufficiently to host the event safely at both tracks.
According to organizers, the safety of horses and jockeys remains paramount, along with ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable experience for our spectators.
“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding and continued support,” the organizers said.
A total of 11 races, including the jockey dash, is on the events card.
This next race day is of great importance as it marks the second nomination day for the Guyana Cup, which is slated for August 23 at a venue to be announced.
According to the provisional programme, for the Easter Cup, horses will run at approximately one mile in the feature race and the total purse for the race is $4 million.
