Kaieteur Sports – According to Statistician Charwayne Walker, Demerara Cricket Club’s Tevin Imlach has found himself in exalted company. The West Indies wicketkeeper/batsman, who was recently appointed Guyana Harpy Eagles captain for the 2026 Regional First Class Championship, will be looking to continue a proud tradition set by his predecessors from DCC.
According to Walker, Sir Clive Lloyd was the man at the helm when Guyana won the 1975 Shell Shield Championship. Sir Clive was the man calling plays again when the land of the Majestic Kaieteur falls won the double Shell Shield and Geddes Grant Shield in 1983.
Another Demerara Cricket Club son of the soil, Roger Harper led from the front with centuries against Trinidad and Tobago and the Leeward Islands in 1987 when the Land of Many Waters won the last Shell Shield tournament.
Walker further informed that Roger Harper was the man running things again when Guyana won the double, Red Stripe Cup and shared the Geddes Shield with the Leeward Islands in 1993.
Now Tevin Imlach is looking to continue the exemplary leadership left by his two illustrious clubmates.
Walker notes, that another Demerara Cricket Club stalwart, the late Roy Fredericks, was captain when Guyana won its first regional one day title 1980. The pugnacious Fredericks led from the front with a robust 119 in the final against the Leeward Islands at the Antigua Recreation ground in St John’s.

According to Walker, the million dollar question being asked by Guyanese cricket fans, is why His Excellency President Mohamed Irfan Ali was not afforded the opportunity to present the 2025 Regional First Class championship trophy to Tevin Imlach in keeping with presidential procedures that saw Former Presidents, the late Linden Forbes Burnham, Hugh Desmond Hoyte and Cheddi Jagan being afforded the task of presenting the respective then captains with the regional championship trophies.
Walker further informed, that while the focus of his information in this article was on the DCC connection, all must note that the Legendary Guyana and West Indies batsman Rohan Kanhai was the first to collect the Shell Shield for Guyana when they won it in 1973. The DCC dynamic duo of Sir Clive Lloyd and Roger Harper ‘brought home the bacon’ in 1975, 1983, 1987 and 1993 and now another Demerara Cricket Club disciple in Tevin Imlach is continuing the great tradition of the longstanding city cricket club.
