Kaieteur Sports – Excitement is building in the capital as the Georgetown leg of the Guinness “Greatest of the Streets” tournament prepares to kick off, with 32 teams set to battle for supremacy in a direct elimination format at the National Cultural Centre Tarmac from April 15 to May 1.
The Georgetown segment will bring the curtain down on the 2025 season, serving as the final stop before the focus shifts to the national playoffs. Attention will then turn toward the 2026 campaign. Among the headline contenders are defending champions Laing Avenue, who return with hopes of successfully navigating the six-day competition and retaining their title.
Action will unfold across six match days including; April 15, 17, 23, 24, 29, and May 1 with the opening two nights dedicated to Round of 32 clashes. Fans can expect an intense start on Wednesday, April 15, when eight matches are scheduled.
Alexander Village take on Island All-Stars at 19:00hrs, followed by Bent Street A against Rising Stars at 19:30hrs. Make It Happen faces East Coast All-Stars at 20:00hrs, while Team Immaculate meet California Square at 20:30hrs. Festival City then oppose Sophia All-Stars at 21:00hrs, Broad Street clash with Team Spirit at 21:30hrs, Gold Is Money battle Stevedore at 22:00hrs, and Sparta Boss close the night against East Bank Ballers at 22:30hrs.
The Round of 32 continues on Friday, April 17, with another eight fixtures. Bent Street B square off with Unity Ballers at 19:00hrs, followed by Corinthians versus Team Cruel at 19:30hrs. Defending champions Laing Avenue begin their title defence against Gaza Squad at 20:00hrs, while North Ruimveldt face Z-Tekk at 20:30hrs. Albouystown meet Young Stars at 21:00hrs, North East La Penitence tackle K-Town All-Stars at 21:30hrs, Leopold go head-to-head with Kingston at 22:00hrs, and National All-Stars oppose Team Madrid at 22:30hrs.
The tournament intensifies with the Round of 16 on April 23, followed by quarterfinal action on April 24, where both the championship and Guinness Plate competitions will be contested. Teams eliminated at the Round of 16 and quarterfinal stages must compete in the Plate segment or face a three-year suspension.
Semifinal clashes are slated for April 29, setting the stage for a grand finale on May 1, which will feature the Plate final, third-place playoff, and the championship decider.
The full list of participating teams underscores the depth of competition, with sides such as Sparta Boss, Bent Street, Albouystown, Sophia All-Stars, and Gold Is Money all expected to be in the mix as the race for street football supremacy heats up in Georgetown.
