Kaieteur Sports – A collective all-round performance led by a vicious half-century from Christopher Barnwell, coupled with Ivor Trotz’ 3-fer, helped the GPF Officers pull off a daring heist while overshadowing a brilliant knock from Mark Jeffers, as they beat the President Guards by 12-runs during yesterday’s exciting encounter.
Sent in to bat first during an important Super 7 encounter, GPF Officers posted a solid 175-4 from their allotted 20 overs, anchored by an outstanding unbeaten knock from Barnwell.
Barnwell scored an aggressive 35-ball 71* (4×4 4×6), while Ronald Alli (35) and Stephen Harris (28*) helped to pilot GPF Officers to 175-4 from 20 overs.
Jason Heliger snatched 3-29 bowling for the Presidential Guards, who almost pulled off a heist before being restricted to 163-8 after Jeffers missed out on what would have been a mind-blowing ton when he fell for a whirlwind 97.
Ivor Trotz was the hero for the GPF Officers with the ball, bagging 3-25 from his 4 overs, with Troy Benn returning 2-31 while Barnwell claimed 1-19.
Jeffers, who dealt primarily in sixes, muscled 10 maximums along with 4 fours during his 40-ball knock which almost delivered the game for his team under a pressure situation.
In a two over span the game turned twice after Jeffers hit Alli for four straight sixes in the 17th over before falling to Trotz in the very next over, which inevitably halted the Guards’ chase.
