Kaieteur Sports – Essequibo Technical Institute (ETI) sent a strong message in the inaugural Modec Tertiary Educational Football Tournament with a commanding 5-1 triumph over Leonora Technical and Vocational Training Centre (LTVTC) on Saturday at the Leonora Track and Field Centre ground.
The contest was evenly poised in the opening exchanges. Leonora struck first in the seventh minute when striker Kenard Simon found the breakthrough to give the home side a 1-0 advantage. However, their lead was short-lived. ETI responded in the 18th minute as Deangelo Davidson unleashed a powerful free-kick that slipped through the grasp of the Leonora goalkeeper, restoring parity at 1-1.
After the interval, ETI took complete control. Momes Henry fired the visitors ahead moments after the restart, making it 2-1. Jim Carter then turned the game into a rout with two quick strikes in the 50th and 51st minutes, extending the lead to 4-1. ETI capped off the emphatic performance late in the match when M. Simpson added a fifth, sealing a comprehensive 5-1 victory.
Meanwhile, at Buxton Ground, spectators were treated to a double-header highlighted by Linden Technical Institute (LTI) defeating Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE) 4-2 in match #2 of the home-and-away fixtures.
