Kaieteur Sports – The President of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA), Steve Ninvalle, has extended congratulations to International Boxing Association (IBA) President Umar Kremlev following his recent recognition by Russian President Vladimir Putin with the prestigious Order of Friendship.
Kremlev was bestowed with the honour in recognition of his significant contributions to international sport and his continued commitment to the global amateur boxing community.
During the ceremony, President Putin commended the IBA’s resilience and its ongoing efforts to support athletes worldwide, even amid mounting political pressures affecting the sport.
In a statement, Ninvalle said the accolade was both “justified and richly deserved,” noting that the GBA has consistently supported Kremlev’s leadership, including his rise to the presidency of the IBA, and subsequent re-election.
“We have stood firmly behind Mr. Kremlev’s vision for boxing,” Ninvalle stated. “His leadership has ensured that the sport remains athlete-focused, providing opportunities for development and international exposure, particularly for smaller boxing nations like Guyana.”
Ninvalle highlighted, that despite the evolving and sometimes uncertain landscape of amateur boxing, the GBA remains unwavering in its support of the IBA.
He pointed to the organisation’s role in facilitating competitive platforms for Guyanese fighters, enabling them to test their skills against some of the world’s best.
“The IBA has played a critical role in the advancement of boxing in Guyana. Our boxers have benefited tremendously from the opportunities provided, and we are committed to maintaining that relationship for the continued growth of the sport locally,” Ninvalle said.
The GBA president expressed optimism that Kremlev’s recognition would further strengthen international collaboration within boxing and inspire continued investment in boxers across all regions.
