Kaieteur Sports – Elton ‘The Bull’ Dharry, Keevin Allicock and Desmond Amsterdam represented the Golden Arrow Head with success, as they left their opponents pummeled following Saturday’s historic international fight card, hosted at the Pegasus Suites and Corporate Centre.
A fired up Dharry, punched his way to an eighth world title, the first on Guyana soil, after easily wrapping the IBO Super Bantamweight title after gaining a Unanimous Decision against the 22 year-old Tanzania Salmin Kassim.
Judges eventually ruled 117-109, 117-109, 118-109 in favor of the 40 year old Guyanese star, who walked away with a few scars which he picked up during the second round; before changing the tide of the battle in round 4 with a flurry of blows, one of which stunned the young “Lion”.
One of the more anticipated bouts of the 4 match card was the battle between the Olympian Allicock and veteran pugilist Dexter Marques for the National Featherweight championship.
However, fans would be robbed of what could have been a blitz of a battle, after a referee stoppage in the 5th round.
Just a little into a minute and five seconds, medical officials were forced to give the word to officials after Marques was ruled unfit to continue after sustaining a deep left eye cut, thus resulting in Allicock clinching a win by TKO.
Meanwhile, Amsterdam maintained his reputation as a Super Middleweight beast and one of the better local fighters as he took his professional record to 3-0 after man-handling Jamaican Kevin Hylton.
Hylton, who said during the pre-match conference that he was not into talking, had little opportunity to attempt anything spectacular after he was decked three times in the opening round alone, losing all his momentum a little over 2 minutes into the fight after; forcing the official to pull the plug on the bout.
