Kaieteur Sports – The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club recently honoured national youth cricketers Leon Reddy and Jayden Ganpat as the club’s Youth Cricketers of the year 2025. The club, with the assistance of Mahendra Hardyal of Regal Stationery and Computer Centre, handed over a 32-inch television set to each of the players during a simple presentation ceremony.

Club Secretary Hilbert Foster stated that both players were selected based on their performance during the year, along with personal commitment, discipline and attendance rate at training sessions. Reddi, the current captain of the Rose Hall Town Farfan and Mendes Under-16 Team, had an outstanding year with both bat and ball at all junior levels. He was even able to gain selection to the Rose Hall Town Bakewell second division and Namilco Thunderbolt First Division teams. Reddy is widely respected for his leadership skills on the field and recently led Berbice to the under 16 inter county championship title. Reddi served as the vice captain of the Guyana Under16 team in the Cricket West Indies Bilateral series versus Barbados. He was named MVP of the Inter-county tournament and best bowler of the CWI home series.
Ganpat, a left-arm spinner who can also bat, is the vice captain of the Farfan and Mendes Under-16 team, which has so far reached the quarterfinals of the Berbice Cricket Board tournament. Last year, Ganpat was the vice captain of the Berbice under-13 team and performed well with the ball. In the bilateral series versus Barbados, Ganpat spun webs around the opposing batsmen and took the most wickets. He later gained selection on the Berbice under-16 team.
RHTYSC Cricket Manager Robby Kissoonlall hailed both awardees as the future of the club, which has won a total of one hundred and thirty-two cricket tournaments and produced one hundred and thirty-three players for Berbice since its formation in 1990 by the St Francis Community Developers. Seventy-six of those players have gone on to represent Guyana at the different levels, while ten have played international cricket, including Assad Fudadin, Kelvon Anderson, Kelvin Sinclair, Royston Crandon, Shemaine Campbelle and Shabaki Gajnabi. Kissoonlall expressed thanks to the management and staff of Regal Stationery for their support. The company last year also provided two television sets to Danellie Manns and Tameshwar Deonandan, who were named best youth players for 2024. Special thanks were also extended to former Berbice Cricket Board President Anil Beharry for his role in obtaining the sponsorship.
Regal Managing Director, Mahendra Hardyal, congratulated both players and stated that his company was pleased to assist. He urged both players to remain focused and disciplined in the future.
