Kaieteur Sports – The inaugural Tertiary Educational Football Tournament kicks off today at the Queen’s College Ground, as fourteen higher education institutions battle for supremacy in the Modec-sponsored tournament, which runs from February 8 to March 8.
Proceedings get underway with the customary March Past at 13:00 hrs, setting the stage for the official opening matches.
Organised by Petra Organisation, the tournament opens the 2026 football calendar with an exciting double-header beginning at 13:30 hrs. The University of Guyana Turkeyen Campus will clash with the Guyana Industrial Training Centre, followed by Government Technical Institute squaring off against Texila American University in the second encounter.

The Modec Tertiary Education Football Tournament has attracted strong corporate backing, including support from MACORP, Demerara Mutual Group, Banks Powerade, among others.
Chasing the historic inaugural title are Essequibo Technical Institute (ETI), University of Guyana Turkeyen Campus, Government Technical Institute (GTI), Leonora Technical and Vocational Training Centre (LTVTC), Mahaicony Technical Institute (MTI), New Amsterdam Technical Institute (NATI), Port Mourant Technical Institute (PMTI), Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE), Texila American University, Guyana School of Agriculture (GSA) and Upper Corentyne Industrial Training Centre (UCITC).
Following today’s action, competition continues on Tuesday, February 10, with another double-header in Berbice at the Scotts Ground. The University of Guyana Tain Campus will take on Texila American University, before NATI faces UCITC in match four of the tournament.
