Kaieteur Sports – Commanding wins from Annandale Secondary and Berbice Educational Institute (BEI) at QC Ground helped pave the way for the finals after maintaining their form, as teams will fine-tune a bit ahead of the upcoming Qualifier 2 round.
A string of knocks from Joshua Bollers (29), Akeem Persaud (27) and Sanjay Dindyal (24*) kept Annandale in a strong position as they ended on 127-6 off 20 overs.
The trio accounted for the majority of the team’s runs after a brief collapse but consolidated nicely to take their team past the 100-run mark.
Bowling for Convent Gardens was spearheaded by Vinesh Kalpoo (2-8) and Shane Khan (2-18), who took charge with the ball.
Man-of-the-match Ruel Dindyal grabbed 4-15 to keep Annandale in the match, with help from Kevin Singh (3-19) and Akeem Persaud (2-19).
Covent Garden could only muster 81-10 from 17 overs with Kalpoo coming back to score 24 and Jamele Schultz chipping in with 27 to end as the leading-scorers.
BEI continued their form regardless of numbers as they managed to defend a low score after posting 88-10 batting first under some sunny conditions.
Leading run-scorer Ravid Fredricks, who hit scores of 91* and 92* in recent games, set the tone with a run-a-ball 30, backed by Otis Roberts (17).
National all-rounder Brandon Grimmond had exceptional returns of 5-10 while Ray Ramnauth grabbed 2-26 to complete a good bowling effort.
BEI then strolled to 89-4 inside 17 overs after one of the tournament’s leading scorers in Luke Amsterdam hit 33 off 29 alongside the talented Grimmond who batted sensibly for his gritty 25 from 41 balls.
Despite the consistency of the Abram Zuil bowling attack which saw top performers in Rhonel Nurse (2-10), Eshwar Tilak (1-17) and Fredricks (1-25), trying to keep their side in the game; it proved a little too much for opposition the lads.
Meanwhile the next Eliminator round will see Annandale Secondary tackling Abram Zuil who will be out for revenge after their tough defeat.
