Kaieteur Sports – A red-hot Demerara continued their dominance as they whipped West Demerara by 200-run plus deficit when round two of the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) Inter- Association 50-over U-16 tournament continued.
Following up from Saturday’s exciting round, action at the Lusignan Community Centre Ground featured Demerara maintaining their form with a big victory.
National Youth batsman Lomar Seecharran, who smacked 130 during the opening round Saturday, scored a classy 72 (7×4 1×6) which helped Georgetown pile on 255-8 from 50 overs.
Mickel Johnson (35), Prosper Jacobus (35), Makai Dowlin (26) an Afraz Khan (21*), were the other top-scorers for the city team.
West Demerara’s bowling was led by Dhirendra Shivepersaud (3-47), Mahendra Pitiram (2-27) and Jadon Birch (2-35)
In reply, West Demerara were blown away for 54 runs inside 30 overs, with 14 from captain Shazam Ali being the highest score.
Georgetown continued their form with the ball, with in-form leg-spinner Wasim Ali bagging 3-6 with support from Narine Balashankar (3-8) and Khan who returned to 2-7.
During the opening round Saturday, Georgetown racked up 431-4 from 50 overs after Nathan Bishop slammed a brilliant 152 with help from Seecharran (130) and Dowlin 53*.
East Bank bowling was led by the pair of Shane Dewa (2-59) and Jamel Samuels (2-66), but their team were bundled up for just 34 all out after Ali starred with 4-3, with support from Jacobus (2-3), Khan (2-5), and pacer Jasane Craig (2-16).
Over at LBI, West Demerara handed East Coast a six defeat at knocking the latter down for a paltry 95 all out from 34.5 overs.
Scoring was led by a lone wolf in Ashton Collins 39 as West Demerara’s trio of Dhirendra Shivepersaud (5-18), Ishan Harricharran (3-6) and Krishna Mahase (2-27) starred with the leather.
In reply, West Demerara sped to 96-4 in the 20th over thanks to an unbeaten 43 from Ishan Harricharran 43*, with just Collins (2-10) showing some right during the bowling innings.
Meanwhile, action continues today with the 3rd Round, featuring an East Coast/ East Bank battle at Lusignan, while West Dem tackles DCB Xi at LBI Ground, with games bowling off from 9:30h respectively.
