Kaieteur Sports – Round 2 of the ongoing GCB U-19 50 over tourney continued with wins for Demerara and Berbice following the end of yesterday’s pair of matches.
At Lusignan, GCB XI fell for a mere 84-10 from 24 overs batting first, thanks to leg-spinner Dhanesh Persaud’s amazing spell which yielded 5-18 from 6 overs, with help from Parmeshwar Ram who grabbed 2-20.
Only opener Yannick Newton (16) and middle-order batsman Joshua Budhram (17*) tried to get going against a versatile Demerara bowling unit.
The lads from the city, despite losing 4 wickets in the process, got to their final score of 85-4 in the 18th over.
Openers Khush Seegobin (22) and Ram, who continues to grow as an all-rounder, hit a quick 16 off 11 (1×4 1×6).
Demerara’s engine room which consists of Johnathan Mentore (10), Shamar Apple (11*) and Emmanuel Lewis (14*) powered the city boys home.
GCB XI bowlers toiled during their spells with four of their bowlers grabbing a wicket each, including Gibran Yacoob who picked up 1-1 from 2 overs.
Over at Police Ground, the Ancient County boys posted a solid 184-10 in 40.3 overs after the Ramdehol’s, Richard (37) and Romario (43), alongside Adrian Hetmyer (31) carried the middle-order as well as the entire innings
Medium-pacer Darrius Pearson bagged 5-33 along with some assistance from Darwin Joseph (2-30) led Essequibo’s bowling efforts.
Chasing almost 200, the Cinderella County boys failed to get near the required target, after left-arm spinner Gilbert Griffith amazed with returns of 6-15 in a little over 6 overs.
Only opener Romario Bholo got a decent start with 28 (4×4 1×6), as the other Essequibo lads failed to make an impact.
