Ministry of Education, Guyana Golf Association & Nexgen Golf Academy continues to expand CSEC PE Golf Programme

he Ministry of Education continues its strong support for the GGA school’s golf physical education programme.

Kaieteur Sports – The Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Guyana Golf Association and Nexgen Golf Academy continues to make significant strides in developing youth golf, as the sport enters its fourth consecutive year as a Physical Education (PE) elective in the Caribbean Examinations Council (CSEC) curriculum.

So far in 2026, students from Regions 4, 5, and 6 have been actively participating in the practical examination component, hosted at the Nexgen Golf Academy facility on Woolford Avenue. This initiative provides students with hands-on experience in golf fundamentals, rules, etiquette, and on-course play as part of their official assessment.

The examinations were moderated by Sir Stanley Alkey of the Cyril Potter College of Education, who oversaw students from a wide cross-section of schools including Bush Lot Secondary, North Georgetown Secondary, Berbice Educational Institute, Queen’s College, Frasers Educational Institute and West Side High School. He was supported by a team of Physical Education teachers—many of whom are graduates of the CPCE golf training programme—as well as GGA President Aleem Hussain.

This year marks another milestone for the programme, with participation numbers expected to exceed 300 students—demonstrating continued growth and national interest in the sport at the secondary school level.

GGA President Aleem Hussain expressed his appreciation to the Ministry of Education for its ongoing support: “Our programme reaches thousands of students across the country, even as we operate primarily through volunteers, sponsors, and funding from Nexgen Golf Academy and the Westside Golf Course. We provide equipment, balls, tournaments, and training to both teachers and students at zero cost. The results we are seeing today are truly the fruits of years of dedication and collaboration.”

Sir Stanley Alkey also commended the partnership and leadership behind the initiative: “Without the commitment and support of Nexgen Golf Academy, and in particular Mr. Hussain, this programme would never have achieved such success. It is a model for how sport can be effectively integrated into education.”

Over the past four years, the programme has trained dozens of PE teachers, introduced golf to schools across multiple regions, and created new opportunities for students to pursue the sport competitively and recreationally. Several students have already transitioned into national junior programs and local tournaments, signaling a strong pipeline for the future of golf in Guyana.
