Kaieteur Sports – Adrian Emmanuel a thirteen-year-old allrounder from Angoy’s Avenue, greater New Amsterdam, Berbice, was the recipient of a brand-new cricket bat, compliments of this joint initiative between Anil Beharry of Guyana and Kishan Das of the USA. Emmanuel recently represented Guyana in a five match goodwill series vs Barbados under13, which Guyana lost 3-2.
West Indies all format cricketer, Kevin Sinclair, himself a son of Angoy’s Avenue, reached out to this project for assistance for young Emmanuel and the response was immediate. The fast bowling allrounder represents Mount Sinai CC and attends Vryman’s Erven Secondary. He was very thankful for the bat. We encourage all young cricketers to strive for a solid education.
Over the years, many Guyanese cricketers benefitted from this project, many of them went on to represent West Indies at various levels.
This project will continue to improve the lives of youths in every community. We are pleased to be part of the development of young cricketers in Guyana. Our aim is to keep them off the streets and get them actively involved in sports, cricket in particular.
Total cricket related items received/purchased so far: $786,146 in cash, thirteen colored cricket uniforms, one set of stumps, two trophies, thirty six pairs of cricket shoes, forty pairs of batting pads, forty nine cricket bats, forty eight pairs of batting gloves, twenty nine thigh pads, three pairs of wicket keeping pads, six arm guards, two chest pads, two boxes, fifteen gear bags, thirteen bat rubbers, seven helmets, one fiber glass bat, one pair of floppy hat, sixteen boxes and four of white cricket balls, thirteen boxes of red cricket balls, one bat cone, one batting inners and twenty eight footballs. In addition to the above, gear with value of over $600,000 was donated by Sheik Mohamed, former National wicket keeper/batsman. All cash collected is being used to purchase cricket gear requested and not available at the time.
To date, one hundred and five players, male and female, from all three counties of Guyana have benefited directly from cash and gear. In addition, several clubs and schools have also benefited.
Cricket related items, used or new, are distributed free of cost to young and promising cricketers in Guyana. Skills, discipline and education are important characteristics of the recipients. Talent spotting is being done across the country and club leaders also assist to identify same. Progressive and well managed cricket clubs with a youth program, will also benefit.
Distribution will continue.
Anyone interested to contribute can contact Anil Beharry on 623 6875 or Kishan Das on 1 718 664 0896.
