RHTYSC Cricket teams, S. Hussain Engineering Solutions hosts Tribute to Doctors Programme

Kaieteur Sports – Thirteen dedicated medical doctors attached to the Port Mourant Public Hospital were on Wednesday last honoured by the cricket teams of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club during an impressive ceremony in the Hospital boardroom. The teams with the support of the management of S. Hussain Ideal Engineering Solutions hosted the first edition of Tribute to Doctors programme as part of their popular Tribute to Heroes award scheme. The event was held as part of the RHTYSC Basil Butcher Trust Fund for 2026.
Club Secretary Hilbert Foster stated that the ten cricket teams of the RHTYSC has held a Tribute to Heroes programme at the hospital since 2015 and over the years over eighty employees have been honoured for their dedicated services.

The 2026 edition was held two weeks ago and the club agreed to host a separate award ceremony for the doctors and administration. The teams of the club-Poonai Pharmacy Under 11 and 13, Farfan and Mendes Under 15, Bakewell Under 17 and Second Division, Pepsi under 19 and Intermediate, Metro Females, Namilco Thunderbolt under 21 and First Division organised the events which saw the thirteen doctors and the administrator receiving four special gifts along with a medal of excellence, a trophy and a framed certificate.
The awardees were Dr Mark Ramar, Dr Vanessa Singh, Dr Yanara Rodriquez Gonsalez, Dr Marissa Williams-Henry, Dr Saif Alli, Dr Ganesh Omapersaud, Dr Rafeek Rahaman, Dr Shari LaRose, Dr Ghamshaam Sukhdeo, Dr Dayana Rohoman, Dr Yumiley Dis Barra Ferrer, Dr Lidia Perez Lazo, Dr Isabel Gil Rojo and Administrator Bibi Shaneza Nabi.
Foster urged the awardees to uphold their high standard of service to the general public. The long-standing serving secretary noted that the real wealth of the country was the health of its citizens and he praised the awardees for their dedication to their profession despite the challenges they face on a daily basis. Several of the awardees were forced to miss the ceremony due to the arrival of two accident victims at the hospital. Both of the victims were declared dead during the duration of the presentation, adding a sombre atmosphere. Foster committed the club and its ten cricket teams to continuing the award in the future.
Sponsor, Steven Hussain, in brief remarks stated that his company was delighted to be associated with the awards programme and stated that he looks forward to working along with the cricket teams in future projects. Mr Poonai Bhigroog, sponsor of the under 11 and 13 teams, congratulated the awardees and hailed them as real heroes in the ancient county. He praised the hard work of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club and called on other organisations to follow in its footsteps.
Dr Mark Ramar and Dr Barra Ferrer speaking on behalf of their colleagues expressed gratitude for the awards, noting that it was a pleasant surprise to be honoured. Ramar expressed confidence that the award would inspire all of the awardees to maintain their high standard.
Senior female player Danielle Manns expressed thanks to the management of S. Hussain Engineering for their support, while special mention was made of Kevin Ramnarain of K and K Construction and the Guyana Breweries Inc for their contribution towards the success of the ceremony.
The RHTYSC was founded in 1990 by the St Francis Community Developers with the main aim of offering sports and education as an alternative to a life on the road for youths. The club, has received a national award, Medal of Service and won five Guyana Cricket Club of the Year awards. Over the last thirty-six years, the club has won 132 cricket tournaments at all levels while it has produced 133 players for Berbice, 76 for Guyana and ten internationals including three test players.
