Kaieteur Sports – Day Four of the Kashif and Shanghai School’s Futsal Championship delivered another thrilling chapter at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, as several schools stamped their authority on the competition.
With qualification hopes for the next round on the line, teams produced performances marked by intensity, resilience, and moments of individual brilliance, keeping those in attendance at Guyana’s premier indoor facility fully engaged throughout the day.
West Minister Secondary edged Carmel Secondary 2–1 in a tightly contested encounter that was decided by efficiency in front of goal.
Carmel struck first through Earl Lawrence in the 19th minute, capitalising on a lapse in West Minister’s defence.
However, West Minister responded with composure and purpose. Keandre Carr levelled the contest in the 11th minute with a well-taken finish, before Nickille Watson delivered the decisive blow in the 15th minute, sealing a valuable three points and underlining West Minister’s growing confidence in the tournament.
St. Joseph High produced one of the most commanding performances of the day, dismantling Charlestown Secondary 4–1.
Nicholas Nienelder briefly gave Charlestown hope with an early strike in the second minute, but St. Joseph quickly took control of the match. Samech Starke ignited the comeback in the third minute, setting the tone for a dominant display.
Laurel George, Joel Stephens, and Akel Sahadeo added further goals, with Sahadeo’s 19th-minute strike putting the result beyond doubt. St. Joseph’s fluid passing and clinical finishing highlighted their credentials as serious contenders.
West Demerara Secondary advanced without kicking a ball, earning a walkover victory against Bishops’ High.
Meanwhile, New Central High continued their solid run with a composed 2–0 win over VYC Academy. Trevor Gordon opened the scoring in the fifth minute, setting the early tempo, while Peter Khan doubled the advantage in the 21st minute to ensure a controlled finish.
New Central’s defensive structure was particularly impressive, as they denied VYC Academy clear chances and managed the game with maturity.
One of the most entertaining matches of the day saw Annandale edge Cummings Lodge 3–2. Cummings Lodge struck through Quason Price in the seventh minute, but Annandale responded swiftly through Joash Thomas in the 16th minute.
Timothy Dowding restored Cummings Lodge’s lead in the 14th minute, only for Annandale to mount a late surge. Goals from Devon Williams and Uzziah Collins in the 20th and 21st minutes respectively turned the game on its head, showcasing Annandale’s fighting spirit and late-game composure.
Hope Secondary delivered a confident 3–1 victory over Lodge Secondary, combining attacking intent with disciplined defence.
Quashaun Campbell opened the scoring in the seventh minute, followed by Yohance King’s strike in the 19th. Lodge pulled one back through Elijah Scott in the 23rd minute, but an unfortunate own goal by Gilbert Frank in the 24th minute sealed Hope Secondary’s win and capped a frustrating evening for Lodge.
With the group stages intensifying, attention now turns to a packed schedule of fixtures.
On Thursday, December 18, fans will be treated to matchups including St. Joseph versus Carmel, St. John’s College against Charlestown, and New Central High facing West Demerara, among others.
Friday, December 19, promises even more excitement, highlighted by clashes such as St. John’s College versus West Minister, Hope Secondary against North Ruimveldt, and Charlestown meeting Carmel in what could be a pivotal encounter.
