Kaieteur Sports – Team Spirit continued their remarkable giant-killing run in the Bent St/VP ‘Champion of Champions’ Futsal Cup on Friday evening, edging Sparta Boss 5–4 at the National Gymnasium to book a place in the semifinals.
Neron Barrow led the charge for Team Spirit with goals in the 10th and 30th minutes, while Solomon Austin struck twice in the 43rd and 45th. Carl Griffith added another in the 46th minute. For Sparta Boss, Omari Glasgow netted a brace in the 25th and 47th minutes, with CurtezKellman and Jermin Junior scoring in the 33rd and 44th.
In the following matchup, Back Circle overwhelmed Team Family 6–3. Martin King scored in the 14th and 32nd minutes, and Ravin Naughton added goals in the 5th and 34th. Gerry Burnett and Simeon Moore chipped in during the 2nd and 10th minutes. Team Family’s reply came through Steffon Ramsay, who bagged a double in the 5th and 35th minutes, and Brandon Solomon, who scored in the 37th.
Bent St A secured a 2–0 victory over Wash Bay Boys, with early strikes from Raushan Ritch in the 5th minute and Bevney Marks in the 6th.
Bent St B followed with a narrow 1–0 win against Melanie, courtesy of a second-minute goal from Randy Roberts.
The tournament champions will walk away with $1,000,000 and the title trophy. The runners-up will earn $500,000, while the third- and fourth-place teams will collect $300,000 and $200,000, respectively, along with their trophies.
Semifinal action is set for Tuesday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue, where Bent St A will face Bent St B, and Team Spirit will meet Back Circle.
The event will also launch its women’s and youth divisions on Tuesday. Winners of the women’s bracket will receive $150,000, while the youth champions will take home $100,000. Both runners-up will earn $50,000.
