(Kaieteur Sports) – Senior Super50 Inter-County action resumes today, with Berbice looking to extend their win streak against a dangerous Essequibo unit, still hunting their first win as an exciting encounter bowls off today at the Lusignan Community Center Ground.
A red-hot Berbice will be relying on more ‘Sinclair Magic’ come today, after the duo single-handedly disassembled the GCB Select XI in the last round to help script a 7-wicket win.
With Junior’s spin being a focal point of his team’s blueprint for winning games, especially after bagging a 5-fer and Kevin’s Test experience coupled with his MVP half-century recently, the relatives will have much on their plates for the rest of the tournament.
Also with a spin-heavy unit featuring Veerasammy Permaul, Zeynul Ramsammy and Kevin backed by their frontline pacers in skipper Nial Smith and Clinton Pestano; Berbice should fancy their chances.
Adrian Sukwah, Rampertab Ramnauth, Tomani Caesar and others will also need to find their groove with the bat versus a deep Essequibo bowling attack.
For Kemol Savory and his men, losing to Demerara in round one is just another way to rebound stronger starting today against one of the stronger teams in the competition.
Savory, opener Kevon Boodie, top scorer from the last game Keemo Paul, the dynamic Quentin Sampson, who made his mark during this year’s CPL as the breakout player, backed by veteran all-rounder Ricardo Adams and Anthony Adams, will have tons of work to do as Essequibo’s most experienced players.
The last game showed the resolve needed for victory by the Essequibian tail-enders, as Myheim Khan, the hard-hitting Thaddeus Lovell showed their skills getting 20-odd runs apiece.
Berbice however, will need to be wary of the star-studded bowling attack which will be the X-Factor for the Cinderella County boys.
Much will rest in the hands of former West Indies fast-bowler Ronsford Beaton, who had a good first game with 2 scalps, alongside Lovell who had 4 and Paul who continues to work himself back into bowling form.
The left-arm spin duo of Anthony Adams and Ricardo will have 20 key overs being the county’s most experienced slow bowling aces over the last decade.
Both teams could pull an upset but with Berbice riding high off a commanding victory and the Essequibians still seeking that first win of the season, today’s match should provide the right components for an exciting battle.
The match is scheduled to bowl off from 9:00h. (Clifton Ross)
