Kaieteur Sports – Three players and one Coach/Manager left from Moleson Creek Thursday morning to participate in the 23rd PANAM Draughts tournament to be played in Paramaribo Suriname. On Friday 17th the players would be welcomed in the country by officials of the Suriname Draughts Federation. On Saturday the opening ceremony followed by briefing would be held. The game commences in the evening.
22 countries are expected to participate in this prestigious board game. Grandmasters and Federation masters are also expected to be part of the action.
The Guyana contingent would be spearheaded by Mr. Jiaram, President of the Association. Linden player Floyd Cumberbatch is expected to do well judging from his local performances last year. Ravi Rampersaud, who resides in Grenada, is expected to join the team in Paramaribo. Dr. Ivor English will perform the duties of Coach/Manager.
No female player will be taking part in the female category, since according to President of the Association, Mr. Jiaram, a place to train females and children is being sought from President Irfan Ali.
The tournament would last for nine days, in addition the Suriname board would arrange a day for sightseeing thereby boosting their tourism and hospitality growth.
