Guyana to tackle Bonaire and Antigua in 2025/26 CONCACAF Friendly Series next month

(Kaieteur Sports) – As the road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup winds down for some nations, the Golden Jaguars are embracing a new path forward, one focused on development, cohesion, and long-term competitive success. This November, the Golden Jaguars, Guyana national side will embark on their journey in the Concacaf Friendly Series (CFS), a newly introduced platform designed to keep non-World Cup-bound teams active and evolving.

Drawn into Group C, Guyana will go head-to-head with regional counterparts Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Bonaire, and Aruba. The group’s opening fixtures will be held in St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, with Guyana set to face Bonaire on November 15, followed by a clash against hosts Antigua and Barbuda on November 18, both fixtures will be played at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

Unlike traditional tournaments, the CFS isn’t just about competition, it’s about continuity. Created by Concacaf to ensure that all its Member Associations remain active during FIFA international windows, the series provides a valuable opportunity to improve FIFA rankings, fine-tune tactics, and foster squad development outside of the intense pressure of qualification campaigns.

Guyana Football Federation (GFF) President Wayne Forde underscored the importance of the CFS as more than just friendly matches. “This series presents an excellent opportunity for the Golden Jaguars to strengthen team chemistry, test our tactical approaches, and build momentum heading into next year’s competitive calendar,” he said. “Every match counts as we continue to raise our standards and represent Guyana with pride.”

Meanwhile, Golden Jaguars Head Coach Thomas Dooley echoed the sentiment, viewing the series as an essential stepping stone in building a cohesive and competitive unit. “These matches are a critical chance for us to begin embedding our playing philosophy and aligning as a team,” he said. “It’s about understanding the players, shaping our identity, and building a foundation for future success — particularly as we prepare for the Nations League.”

Dooley also made a heartfelt appeal to the Guyanese football community: “We need our fans, the media, and all stakeholders behind us. This journey requires unity, belief, and hard work. With those elements in place, I believe we can achieve something special together.”

With eyes firmly set on growth and preparation, the Golden Jaguars are entering this new competition not just to play but also to evolve. The Guyana Football Federation remains committed to supporting the team’s preparations to ensure competitive performances throughout the series.
