Kaieteur Sports – Guyana’s lone competitor at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Emanuel Archibald, will take flight in the men’s Long Jump, carrying the nation’s hopes on the global stage.
Archibald, one of the country’s most accomplished athletes, enters the competition with a personal best of 8.22 metres, a mark that not only stands as the Guyanese national record but also ranks as the 16th best jump in the world this season.
The 31-year-old Lindener has steadily carved his place in Guyana’s athletics history. In 2019, he shattered another Lindener, Mark Mason’s long-standing national record of 8.07m, which had been set in 1993, pushing it to 8.12m.
Earlier this year, Archibald went even further, soaring to 8.22m and solidifying his status as Guyana’s premier jumper.
Known for his explosive speed on the runway and consistency on the board, Archibald will now test himself against the world’s elite as the championships got underway yesterday in the Japanese capital. Archibald carries Guyana’s hopes at World Athletics Championships in Tokyo
