Kaieteur Sports – The Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) has officially reopened its golfing season, setting the stage for an ambitious series of tournaments, course enhancements, and international engagements. The reopening was marked by the recent Gmin Ventures Tournament, which not only welcomed players back into competition but also underscored the exciting opportunities on the horizon for the remainder of the year.
LGC Public Relations Officer Brian Hackett explained that the season ahead is designed to maintain momentum and ensure that golf in Guyana continues its trajectory of growth. “With the season now open, we’re seeing more and more players preparing for what promises to be a successful year. The upcoming tournaments provide a platform for players to sharpen their skills while contributing to the overall growth of the game,” Hackett said.
Among the most anticipated fixtures are the Banks DIH Tournament, the Macorp Tournament, and the prestigious Guyana Open. These competitions, all scheduled in the coming months, represent cornerstone events on the club’s calendar. Hackett emphasized that they are expected to attract not only local golfers but also regional players, further positioning Guyana within the Caribbean golf circuit.
Looking outward, the LGC has its sights firmly set on international exposure. Several local golfers are preparing to participate in tournaments in Trinidad, Jamaica, and other regional destinations, using local events as preparation grounds. “Our players are determined to raise their level of play, and international competition offers the perfect stage for that. These experiences also bring recognition to Guyana, strengthening our presence in the Caribbean golfing community,” Hackett noted.
At home, the club is working diligently to upgrade its facilities. While Hackett acknowledged that “a few glitches on the greens” remain to be resolved, he was quick to point out that the course is in excellent condition overall. “The fairways are lush, providing good bounce and distance, creating ideal playing conditions. We are committed to ensuring that the grounds remain top-quality for both practice and competition,” he said.
The club’s broader vision extends beyond just tournaments and course upkeep. LGC aims to expand its membership base, encourage new players to take up the sport, and continue forging private partnerships that sustain its growth. By aligning competitive opportunities with community engagement, the club hopes to cement its role as both a national and regional hub for golf.
“As we move deeper into the season, we expect not only strong competition but also lasting improvements that will benefit the sport for years to come,” Hackett affirmed.
With high-profile tournaments approaching, ongoing course improvements, and international ambitions, the Lusignan Golf Club is charting a future defined by growth, excellence, and opportunity.
