Venezuelan construction worker shot by farmer at Parika
(Kaieteur News) – A 20-year-old Venezuelan construction worker of Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) was on Saturday night shot by a 62-year-old farmer at Parika, EBE.
Police in a statement said that the farmer was at home when he reportedly heard a sound coming from his front door.
“Further enquiries disclosed that the farmer, who is a licensed firearm holder, later observed the 20-year-old male under a shed on his property. During the incident, two rounds were discharged from the firearm, which resulted in the 20-year-old receiving injuries to his upper right abdomen area,” police said.
The incident occurred at about 23:30h.
The injured man was taken to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital, where he was admitted.
The farmer later reported the matter to the Police.
The licensed firearm, five live rounds and two spent shells were lodged pending investigation, police said.
Several persons were questioned and statements are being taken as part of the investigation.
Police in Regional Division # 3 are investigating the shooting incident.
