Kaieteur Sports – Blazing half-centuries from Ben McDermott and Shai Hope, helped the Guyana Amazon Warriors skip to a 5-wicket win over the home team, St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots last night at Warner Park.
The Patriots made a modest 153-8 after their overs ended and were dearly indebted to veteran opener Andre Fletcher who nailed 5 sixes in his 41-ball 60.
Jyd Goolie finished the game with 24 not out (2×4 1×6) while South African Rilee Rossouw (12) and Abbas Afridi (10) chipped in with double-digit scores.
The South African pair of fast-bowler Dwaine Pretorius (3-43) and his skipper Imran Tahir (2-29) led the Warriors bowling attack with a wicket each coming from Shamar Joseph, Gudakesh Motie and Romario Shepherd.
Warriors chase was propelled by new opener Aussie McDermott, who smashed 75 off 39 balls (10 X4, 2×6) which set the tone for his team’s final score of 154-5 in 17.2 overs.
In-form batter Hope showed his class with a brisk 56* (5×4 2×6) while Moeen Ali (19) helped navigate the way home. Medium-pacer Afridi returned to claim 2-24 bowling for the Patriots. (Clifton Ross)
