Yarrowkabra Sec’ crowned James Lewis Challenge Trophy Tapeball champions
Yarrowkabra Secondary collects the James Lewis Trophy after edging Diamond Secondary in the final.
Kaieteur Sports – The much–anticipated James Lewis Challenge Trophy Secondary Schools Tapeball Cricket Competition concluded last Saturday at the National Cultural Centre (NCC) Tarmac, with Yarrowkabra Secondary emerging as champions after edging out Diamond Secondary by just five runs to claim the coveted James Lewis Trophy.
The NCC Tarmac came alive with exciting cricket action as Yarrowkabra Secondary batted first, posting an imposing 67–4 from their allotted overs. Nikolas Morris was outstanding with the bat, top–scoring with 31 runs. For Diamond Secondary, Adrian Persaud was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 3–19.
In reply, Diamond Secondary fell just short, managing 62–5 despite their best efforts. The star of the innings was Wazim Ali, whose fine spell of 3–13 ensured Yarrowkabra held on for a thrilling victory. Ali’s consistent bowling performances throughout the tournament earned him the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.
Looking ahead, the Georgetown Office Assistant Promotions Committee (GOAPC) will host its Summer Inter–Ministries/Government Agencies Domino Competition on Friday, July 25, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation parking lot (Charlotte Street entrance).
Up for grabs will be the Hon. Carl Greenidge Trophy and the Ambassador Trophy, along with medals and cash incentives for the winning and runner-up teams.
The action is scheduled to slam off at 4:00p.m., and players are asked to be seated by 3:30p.m. A grand after–work lime with karaoke entertainment will follow the competition.
