Kaieteur Sports – Left-handed opening batsman Sunil Dhaniram waltzed his way to a destructive, unbeaten 205 to help Toronto Blizzards beat Friendship Masters by 184 runs in the continuation of the Ontario Masters Softball Cricket Clubs Over-50 T20 competition on Saturday last.
Dhaniram, who played for Guyana at the first-class level and also Canada internationally, plundered 25 sixes and 9 fours as Toronto Blizzards galloped to a daunting 347-1 from the allotted 20-overs.
Friendship Masters, in reply, finished off proceedings at 163-5 (20-overs) at Lester B Pearson ground in Scarborough.
Dhaniram also shared a prolific, admirable 336-run opening partnership with skipper Shiv Seeram, who cracked a blistering, boundary-studded 111.
Seeram, the right-hander, struck ten sixes and six fours during his 46-ball show at the crease.
Dhaniram, the younger brother of former Guyana and USA batsman Sudesh Dhaniram, occupied the crease for 69 balls.
For Friendship Masters, Kamal Baksh hit a fighting 39 to be the principal scorer while Bora Gangadeen contributed 34 not out and Sunny Ramdahar with 32 before he retired-out.
Veteran Khem Singh took two wickets for 20 runs from his maximum three overs, delivering for the victorious combination.
Meanwhile, Dhaniram expressed delight with his second softball double-century. He attributed this splendid success to hard-work and commitment at the crease. He mentioned playing consistently and competitively is also a testament to this milestone.
Seeram featured for Canada as well at highest level while he would have represented Guyana at the regional youth (U-19) level. Seeram is the smaller brother of ex-Guyana first-class middle-order batsman Rabindranauth Seeram.
The competition is slated to continue on Saturday with a plethora of matches across the Scarborough Region.
Blizzards, the former champion, will confront rivals Canadian Legends at Dean Park facility.
Blizzards team is currently occupying the number 3 spot on the points’ chart while Legends sitting at number 2 and defending champions GTA Storm is riding at the top. Eight teams are participating in this year’s edition. The curtains are set to come down early September with the grand finale.
