Austin’s brilliance sends Ballers Empire into semis

…Pourgeroyen, Jetty Ballers and Wash Bay Boys join hunt for Guinness title

Kaieteur Sports – Defending champions Ballerz Empire continued their dominant run in the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ West Demerara edition, launching into another semifinal for the third consecutive year following a convincing 3-0 quarterfinal victory on Wednesday.

The atmosphere at the Pouderoyen tarmac was electric as the tournament edged closer to crowning its regional/district champion. Quarterfinal action featured emphatic wins from Pouderoyen, Wash Bay Boys, Jetty Ballers, and Ballerz Empire.

In the most commanding performance of the night, home team Pouderoyen secured their first-ever semifinal spot with an 8-0 thrashing of Murphy Street Stars. The onslaught began just three minutes into the game when Luiroy Nieuelder found the back of the net. Kevon Scott doubled the lead shortly after, putting Street Stars on the back foot.

Despite their aggressive style, Murphy Street Stars were unable to contain a relentless Pouderoyen attack. Devin Gaskin capitalized on the yellow ball opportunity, scoring twice in quick succession (27th and 29th minutes), bringing the scoreline to 6-0. Seon Stephens added the final blow with a third Golden Goal (GG) in the 30th minute, sealing the rout.

In a notable shift, this will be the first time Pouderoyen Brothers feature in the semifinals of the East Bank/West Bank tournament, while perennial contenders Showstoppers miss out.

Wash Bay Boys will also advance to the semifinals after a tense encounter against Team Family ended in a goalless draw. The match was decided by penalties, with Wash Bay holding their nerve to win 2-1 in the shootout.

Jetty Ballers later outlast Showstoppers in the third quarterfinal clash Wednesday evening. During the clash, Showstoppers struck first in the encounter, with Stephen Jupiter scoring in the 8th minute. However, Deon Alfred turned the tide with a standout performance, netting the equalizer before clinching the winner in the 29th minute. Jetty Ballers emerged 2-1 victors thanks to Alfred’s Golden Goal, ending Showstoppers’ campaign.

Meanwhile, two-time champions Ballerz Empire looked every bit the favourites as they dispatched Epic Touch Family 3-0 in the final quarterfinal match. Solomon Austin was the star of the show, scoring all three goals, including a Golden Goal to complete his hat trick and secure a semifinal spot.
