West Coast Warriors open NYNCL competition with 124-run victory

Kaieteur Sports- It was an auspicious start for West Coast Warriors after they registered a comprehensive, 124-run win over Yakasari Cricket Club on Sunday at Whitestone venue in the 2025 New York National Cricket League (NYNCL) 30-over competition.

Winning the toss and decided to take first strike, Warriors rattled up a mammoth 308-5 from the allotted 30-overs while they bowled Yakasari for 184 in the 25th over.

Captain and former Guyana youth player, Kevin Christian, led from the front with an impressive 83. Christian struck 9 sixes and a solitary four during his 46-ball stay at the crease and received good support from Avi Dhanpaul and Rajendra Khan with 64 and 55 respectively.

At the backend of the innings, Vaickesh Dhaniram provided a late flourish with a spanking, unbeaten 50 laced with 6 sixes and 2 fours.

Ganesh Ramlall took two wickets for 51 runs from five overs, bowling for the opposition.

When Yakasari batted, Avinash Cassie scored a fighting 41, while Kapeshwar Jagdeo added 35 runs and 22 from Hemakesh Kissoon.

Medium pacer Kabir Ghai grabbed 3-42 from his maximum six overs, while leggy Brandon Cabose also picked up three wickets but the ex-Essequibo under-19 player conceded 48 runs during his five-over spell. Anthony Providence was also in the wicket-column having captured 2-42 from six overs to help with the outstanding bowling effort.

The action is slated to continue on Sunday. West Coast Warriors will tackle Tri-County Cricket Club at the same venue.

In 2024, Warriors featured in the final.
