2025 Cricket Association (GCA) First-Division 50-over final…
-GCC lose by 100 runs
Kaieteur Sports- A thumping 100-run win by the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) over arch rivals Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), helped them capture their first Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) First-Division 50-over Championship.
DCC posted what seemed like a lowish score of 227 all out in 44.5 overs at the Bourda Ground, led by Brandon Jaikaran who carried his team with a dogged knock of 53 off 92 balls.
Veteran all-rounder and DCC skipper Christopher Barnwell bruised the bowling for his 43 not out off 28 balls, finding help from national youth players Jonathan Van Lange (39), and Sachin Singh (31).
Seasoned spinner Devon Lord led GCC’s bowling with returns of 4-27, bagging three of his victims in one over, as Yeudistir Persaud (2-30) and Krsna Singh (1-33) chipped in reasonably.
With the foundation set for a good win at home, DCC had other plans marching into their opponents’ turf, knocking them over for just 127 inside 30 overs.
The bowling charge was led by Ezekiel Wilson who grabbed 3-20, while Daniel Mootoo (2-22) and fast-bowler Van Lange (2-25) along with senior national spinner Steven Sankar (2-29) helped give their team a title which has eluded them more than a decade.
Only national all-rounder Thaddeus Lovell tried to keep things together with his innings of 47, as did other contributions from Navindra Persaud (26) and Deonarine Seegobin (12).
