Kaieteur Sports – The final day of Draughts was completed last Sunday at the Transport Sports Club, Thomas Lands. The tournament was played in three categories over the last three Sundays in October. Last Sunday was the biggest event when President and veteran player Mr. Jiaram triumphed easily by winning the most prestigious event which was played on the international 100 square boards. This event is also the qualifier to enter the Panama Draughts tournament to be played in Puerto Rico next year April.
Jiaram started the day by winning three consecutive opponents securing 12 points. A further 4 points from two other players set him in the safe mode. Esan Anderson with 13 points brought second and also having a chance in Panama. Navin Meighbarran with 11 points placed third while Steve Bacchus with 9 points clinched the fourth spot.
The National Draughts Association would like to thank the following for their contribution towards the event: Trophy Stall, Bourda Market, Puran Bros. Disposal Service, Rubis, Bel Air, Gentle Elias Attorney at Law, YK Pawn Shop and services, Guyana Beverage Inc. for supplying water and beverages, GT Wines for three bottles of wines to savour the finals and Mr Ivor English and Mr. Collymore for the venues.
The next event is the Christmas hamper competition.
