…fined G$39M
Kaieteur News – Christopher Douglas, a resident of Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD) was on Wednesday sentenced to four years in prison and fined G$39M for trafficking 57lbs of cocaine.
Douglas pleaded guilty to the charge when he made his first appearance at the Diamond Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Sunil Scarce.
On Sunday, the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) reported that while conducting a routine operation at a cargo company adjacent to the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), they intercepted a motorcar driven by Douglas.
A search of the motorcar led to the discovery of twenty-three (23) brick-like parcels of suspected cocaine and a 9mm pistol and a magazine with 14 matching rounds.
The narcotics tested positive for cocaine, weighting approximately 26.016 kg (almost 57.35 lbs.), with a street value of approximately G$27 million.
