Kaieteur Sports – Banks DIH Limited will be on board with the Port Mourant Turf Club (PMTC) in a big way. The occasion is the Pre Emancipation Horse Race Meet at the Club’s track, Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice, on Sunday, July 31.
According to Banks DIH Berbice branch manager Nadesh Basdeo apart from sponsoring the three-year old derby event they will also have a full complement of beverages and eatables on display.
Some seven races are listed for the day with over $10 M in cash trophies and other incentives up for the taking.
The feature event will be an open race for all horses with a winning purse of $1.5 M and a trophy over 1 mile.
The Banks DIH Derby for three-year-old open horses from Guyana and West Indies also over one mile for a winning take of $800,000 and the Banks DIH Trophy is a co-feature event.
Another race to look forward to is the E-class open and North American none winners in Guyana; this six 6 furlongs race has a winner’s purse of $600,000 and a trophy.
The G-class horses will be battling for $500,000 and a trophy in another 6 furlongs clash.
Horses classified j and lower will race over 6 furlongs for a winner’s haul of $300,000 and a trophy.
The race for two years old Guyana Bred animals over 6 furlongs will see the winner racing away with $300,000 and a trophy.
The L class open animals will be hunting the $300,000 and a trophy bounty available in their category over 6 furlongs.
The day’s event will be conducted using the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA).
Horses participating in the feature event will have their weight allocated by class. For the Banks DIH Derby, Guyana Bred horses will be given a five-pound allotment.
Two years old horses will be subjected to a veterinary inspection before being allowed to race.
