8th Digicel Schools Football Championship…

Kaieteur Sports – On Friday, the eighth edition of the Digicel Schools Football Championship continued in Region 4’s Georgetown zone and Region Nine, with a total of eight matches.
In Georgetown, Chase’s Academic Foundation, Dolphin Secondary and Charlestown Secondary were the highlights of the day as they recorded massive wins while St. Ignatius and Sand Creek also triumphed in Region 9’s championship.
At the Ministry of Education (MoE) Ground, Dolphin Secondary dismantled Tutorial High to win 10 – 0 as Nicholas Tappin (27’, 43’ & 60’) led with a hat-trick while doubles came from Gerry Burnette (15’, 27’) and Jamal Williams (23’, 23’). Jequan Cole (26’), Requan Corbin (64’) and Jude Charles (70’) accounted for the other goals.
In Chase’s triumph over Brickdam, Seon Cato (7’, 38’ & 42’) was the hat-trick scorer, Bryan Wharton (18’, 22’) and Omar Sam (15’, 26’) scored doubles while a goal each came from Mannasseh Anderson (4’), Duquan Samuels (31’), Shakem Welcome (28’) and Martim Martin (60’).
Charlestown blasted eight unanswered goals past North Georgetown at the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) Ground as D`Angelo Dick (13’), Malach Barker (17’), Jeramiah Booker (24’), Andrew Carto (37’), Natahan Pollard (47’), Malcolm Hendricks (50’) and Emmanuel Nedd (57’), all found the back of the net.
North Georgetown added to their own misery when Dhanesh Persaud picked up an own goal in the 43rd minute.
The other Georgetown games saw Ian Daniels (15’, 46’) score twice for Carmel in their 2 – 1 win over North Ruimveldt, Excelsior Academy were awarded with a walkover victory against St. John’s College and St Winifred’s produced a marvelous performance to sink the Bishop’s High 3 – 1.
In Region 9, Anai and St. Ignatius battled to a 2 – 2 stalemate but the latter emerged victorious 5 – 4 on penalty kicks while Sand Creek romped to a comfortable 3 – 1 win over Aishalton.
Meanwhile, the tournament which is organised by the Petra Organisation continues today, July 3.
