(Kaieteur News) – The Ministry of Natural Resources on Friday launched “Eldorado Reimagined” the country’s first unified national gold and jewellery brand.
The launch, intentionally timed to coincide with Guyana’s milestone 60th Independence Anniversary (Diamond Jubilee), represents a pivot from extraction to high-value domestic craftsmanship. The crowning achievement of the evening was the unveiling of a national artifact, Guyana’s first-ever commemorative independence gold medallion to be completely mined, refined, designed, and minted within the country.
Addressing an audience of government officials, diplomats, mining executives, and private sector leaders, President Irfaan Ali framed the initiative as an act of economic self-determination.
“Tonight, represents more than the launch of a brand. It represents Guyana taking ownership of its story, its resources, and its future,” Ali stated. “For generations, our gold largely left these shores as a raw commodity. Today, we are demonstrating to the world that Guyana is capable of refining, manufacturing, and exporting excellence.”
President Ali emphasized that “Eldorado Reimagined” is not merely a marketing campaign, but a strategic infrastructure built to position Guyana as an internationally recognized hub for premium jewellery manufacturing. Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat, echoed these sentiments, noting that the initiative fulfills a deliberate policy shift toward value creation.
“This brand represents quality, authenticity, and national pride,” Minister Bharrat noted.
“It is about reshaping the narrative of Guyanese gold and ensuring that more of the value generated from our natural resources remains within our country.” The newly unveiled Diamond Jubilee commemorative medallion serves as a tangible proof-of-concept for Guyana’s upgraded industrial capabilities.
“This medallion is not simply a collectible,” Minister Bharrat emphasized. “The fact that the gold was mined and refined in Guyana, the product was designed in Guyana, and for the first time, a commemorative medallion was minted in Guyana using Guyanese gold makes this an extraordinary achievement.”
The launch also served as a major commercial showcase. In partnership with the Guyana Jewelers Association, the event hosted a premier jewelry exhibition highlighting the intricate work of local designers. Vead Persaud, Vice Chairman of the Guyana Jewelers Association, lauded the state partnership as a monumental step forward for domestic workshops. “The Guyana Jewellers Association is proud to partner in this historic launch and to support the continued development of a stronger, more structured, and internationally competitive jewellery sector,” Persaud said, noting that the initiative provides a vital global platform for local talent.
Looking toward the future, the exhibition featured a prominent display from the Guyana Mining School, highlighting the next generation of technical jewellery craftsmen currently being trained to sustain the brand’s stringent quality standards. The Ministry of Natural Resources has announced that global and local buyers interested in securing a piece of Guyana’s history can pre-order the limited-edition 60th Independence Anniversary Gold Medallion.
Due to the limited, serialized production run, pieces will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Secure digital orders can be placed directly through the official state portal at https://guyanagold.ggb.gov.gy/pre-order/.

This is a BIG TIME SCAM, by a Government Agency. BEWARE.
Offering for sale ? Or for FREE ? A GOLD MEDALLION celebrating 60 years
of Independence or of Eldorado Rum ?
And, it’s only .999 gold, not the .9999 pure product.
WHERE THE HELL IS THE PRICE FOR THE MEDALLION ?
I checked the website at end of article…
No where did it list a single price for each.
Just financial, other info requested.
It would have been better to make a GOLD COIN that could be
used in monetary transactions.
Again, Beware. Do not provide financial information to this site.
