Readymix Concrete Ltd and MCY&S partner for Independence Golf Tournament
Kaieteur Sports – In celebration of Guyana’s 60th Independence Anniversary, the Lusignan Golf Club will host the Ready Mix Concrete Limited / Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport Independence Golf Tournament on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at the club’s championship course.
The tournament will tee off at 8:00 a.m. with a shotgun start and will be contested under medal play format over 18 holes. The competition will feature two male flights and one female flight, bringing together many of Guyana’s top golfers for what is expected to be a memorable day of sport and national celebration.
The male category will be divided into handicaps 0–13 and 14–28, while the ladies’ division will cater for handicaps ranging from 0–36.
LGC Grounds Superintendent Brian Hackett received the tournament trophies from Director of Sports Steve Ninvalle (top) and sponsorship cheque from Readymix Concrete Limited Accountant, Kanhai Sewnarine.
Players will compete for trophies and prizes in categories including Best Net in each flight, First, Second and Third Place finishes, Ladies Overall Best Net (First and Second Place), Overall Best Net, Best Gross, Nearest to the Flag and Longest Drive.
Following the tournament, players and patrons will be treated to a special lunch and refreshments, including XM Rum compliments of Banks DIH Limited. Participants will have the opportunity to enjoy XM Rum 12-Year-Old, 7-Year-Old and 8-Year-Old blends along with other beverages as part of the Independence festivities.
Readymix Concrete Limited has been a longstanding supporter of golf in Guyana and has partnered with the Lusignan Golf Club on several major tournaments over the years, including the prestigious Guyana Open. Chief Executive Officer of Ready Mix Concrete Limited, Munesh Ruplall, said the company is proud to be part of Guyana’s Independence celebrations through sport.
“Ready Mix Concrete Limited is delighted to once again support the Lusignan Golf Club and the continued development of golf in Guyana. As the country celebrates 60 years of Independence, we are honoured to be associated with this tournament and wish all participants a successful and enjoyable competition,” Ruplall stated.
Director of Sport Steve Ninvalle commended the collaboration and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting golf and sports development in Guyana.
“We are pleased that the Ministry continues to play an important role in supporting the Lusignan Golf Club and the sport of golf. From assisting with equipment such as the club’s lawnmower to helping ensure tournaments are successfully executed, the Ministry remains committed to the growth of the sport. We wish all players the very best in the tournament,” Ninvalle said.
The tournament forms part of activities commemorating Guyana’s Diamond Jubilee Independence celebrations and is expected to deliver a day of competitive golf, fellowship and patriotic celebration.
