…Trinidad and Tobago sweeps Men’s podium

Guyana’s Attoya Harvey stands tall at the top of the podium after winning this year’s CARICOM 10K Road Race in Trinidad and Tobago
Kaieteur Sports – The CARICOM 10K, held in the Twin Island Republic yesterday, witnessed Trinidad and Tobago dominating the men’s category and Guyana’s Attoya Harvey securing victory in the women’s section.
This year marked the 16th edition of the 10K race, serving as a pre-event for the Annual Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government, which coincided with CARICOM’s 50th-anniversary celebrations.
Over 200 athletes from the 15 CARICOM Member States participated in the race, starting at Pier 1 and progressing west along the Western Main Road towards the Military Gate at Chaquacabana Beach.
The route led the runners back east along the same road, culminating at the Convention Center.
In the women’s section, 17-year-old Harvey delivered an exceptional performance, completing the race in 41 minutes and 58.6 seconds.
She claimed the top spot, leaving Samantha Shukla (43:21.7) and Laura Limery (44:54.1) to secure second and third place, respectively.
In the men’s category, Trinidad and Tobago showcased their prowess by clinching all three podium spots.
Marlon Nicholson from Guyana, last year’s race winner in Suriname, finished fourth behind the triumphant Trinidadians.
Nicholson’s compatriots, Winston Missigher and Cleveland Thomas secured sixth and eighth place, respectively.
The inaugural CARICOM 10K was organized in 2005 to commemorate the United Nations International Year of Sport and Physical Education. (Rawle Toney)
